Dolichoderus mariae
Crimson Armored Ants
Although locally abundant, the ecosystems that support Dolichoderus nesting are rare, sparse, and inconspicuous. As a result, D. mariae is one of the most elusive species in the United States, residing in very few locations. To support progress in myrmecological research, entomologists strongly suggest deceased D. mariae specimens be preserved in at least 95% ethanol and saved for testing and analysis purposes.
