Formica pallidefulva
Orange Field Ants
While southern populations of Formica pallidefulva are commonly very light orange to even yellow in coloration, Northern varieties are occasionally much darker with jet black gasters. Very few species in the Formica genus experience such an extreme degree of color variation, and darker populations are often seriously misidentified.
